From raw materials to cartridges: all under one roof
MAUNAWAI develops and manufactures its own products rather than sourcing them externally and rebranding them. The Kini is manufactured in Germany, whilst the filter cartridges are produced at the company’s own ISO-certified facility in Hungary (EU). Around 80% of production already takes place in Germany and the EU.
- The Kini has been manufactured in Germany since 2015: from injection moulding to final assembly. BPA-free, recyclable plastic without plasticisers.
- The latest generation of cartridges is manufactured at our own EU facility. All materials are tested in accordance with European food regulations, and every batch is inspected.
- The PiPrime combines technology with craftsmanship: hand-blown glass containers by professional glassblowers, each one a unique piece without inclusions or irregularities.
- CE certification in accordance with EN 17093:2018 with annual inspections. Additionally, regular biophysical testing by the IIREC Institute. This dual quality assurance is unique in the industry.
- In the independent Altroconsumo comparison test, the Kini was the overall winner among 14 water filters. The result confirms our commitment to quality: from the selection of raw materials and the firing temperature of the ceramics to the final inspection of every batch.
In-house production, in-house quality
When you hold a MAUNAWAI product in your hands, you are holding something that has not simply been bought in and relabelled. Behind every filter, every cartridge and every jug lies our own development, our own production and our own quality control.
In the water filter industry, this is anything but a given. Many suppliers have their products manufactured in Asia and limit themselves to design and sales. MAUNAWAI takes a different approach, and this approach is longer, more labour-intensive and more expensive. But it is the only way that gives us the control we need to keep our quality promise.
The Kini: Made in Germany
The Kini, our compact filter jug, is produced in Germany. We have been managing jug production in-house since 2015. This means that everything, from the injection moulding of the plastic housing to final assembly, takes place under our control.
The plastic used in the Kini is BPA-free and fully recyclable. It contains no plasticisers and no additives that pose a health risk. That may sound obvious, but it isn’t: many cheap filter jugs on the market use plastics that can leach substances when in contact with water – exactly what a water filter is supposed to prevent.
Cartridge production: Made in the EU
For the latest generation of our filter cartridges, we have set up our own production site – in Hungary, within the EU. The decision to choose Europe was a conscious one: short transport routes, high quality standards, strict food regulations.
The new facilities are ISO-certified. All materials and raw materials are carefully tested in accordance with European food regulations. And checks are carried out on every new batch, i.e. every new production run.
What makes the new generation of cartridges special is that all materials previously used in granule form are now manufactured as ceramics. These ceramics are fired in a special process at over 1,000 degrees Celsius. The porous yet mechanically stable ceramic matrix dramatically increases the effective surface area. The water can absorb the necessary mineral and trace element ions more effectively, and unnatural contaminants are better neutralised.
The PiPrime: Craftsmanship meets technology
The PiPrime gravity filter combines technology with craftsmanship. The housing is made of high-quality SAN plastic, free from plasticisers and BPA, and features a hand-blown glass container.
This glass is something special: it is individually crafted by professional glassblowers. No glass containers, no industrial casting. Every container is unique. Quality control is strict: neither inclusions nor irregularities are permitted in the glass. The subtle blue tint of the glass is not only aesthetic; it protects the filtered water from light exposure that could impair its quality.
The PiPrime can be ordered with an optional sandblasted engraving: the ‘Flower of Life’ on the base of the container, with a diameter of 19 centimetres.
CE certification in accordance with EN 17093:2018
Our filter systems bear the CE mark, certified in accordance with the European standard EN 17093:2018 for drinking water treatment devices. This standard assesses strict criteria: material compatibility (no migration of harmful substances from the filter into the water), hygiene requirements, mechanical stability and consistent performance throughout the entire service life.
Certification is not granted as a one-off; it requires annual inspections. This means that our products are regularly tested by independent testing institutes. This ongoing monitoring is resource-intensive, but it gives both us and you the assurance that our quality promises remain valid over time.
In addition to CE certification, our filter systems are also regularly tested by the IIREC Institute, both for their pollutant removal performance and for biophysical parameters such as resonance signals and vital frequencies. This dual testing – chemical-analytical and biophysical – is unique in the industry.
From concept to quality control
The path MAUNAWAI has taken with its own production is a deliberate counter-trend. In an industry dominated by outsourcing and cost optimisation, we invest in our own facilities, our own formulations and our own quality control.
Currently, around 80% of our products are manufactured in Germany and the EU. Our goal: 100%. Every stage of production that remains in our hands means greater transparency for you.
Because good water deserves good craftsmanship. And trust deserves control.
Top performer in an independent comparison
The fact that our quality approach works is demonstrated not only by our own tests. In a major independent comparison test by the Italian consumer magazine Altroconsumo – one of Europe’s most renowned consumer protection organisations – the Kini was named the overall winner among 14 water filters tested. Among other things, the test assessed the filtration of nitrates, heavy metals, hormones and solvents. The Kini achieved top marks in all categories.
This result is no coincidence. It is the outcome of a philosophy that does not leave quality to chance – but actively ensures it at every stage of production. From the selection of raw materials and the firing temperature of the ceramics right through to the final inspection of every single batch.
What this means for you
When you choose MAUNAWAI, you are choosing a product that does not come from an anonymous catalogue. You know its origin. You know the materials. And you know that behind every single filter there are people who personally vouch for the quality – from development in Werder an der Havel to production in Hungary.
That is what “Made in Germany” means to us: not just a seal of origin, but a promise. A promise we fulfil every day – with every filter that leaves our premises.
