Lime pre-filter — The filter pad protects the main cartridge and reduces limescale and nitrate in your tap water. Valuable minerals such as calcium and magnesium are retained.

High-tech activated carbon, shungite, and zeolite — 170 grams of activated carbon granules made from coconut shells with a surface area of over 270,000 m². That is equivalent to 38 soccer fields. This enormous surface area reliably binds pollutants such as chlorine, pesticides, heavy metals, hormones, and medication residues. Supplemented by precious shungite, whose natural fullerenes act as catalysts, and zeolite, which specifically binds heavy metals and ammonium.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are so-called “forever chemicals”: they hardly break down in the environment and accumulate in the human body. They have been regulated for the first time since the 2023 Drinking Water Ordinance took effect—but many water treatment plants are not yet able to remove them completely

What began as a solution to a family problem

It all began with a child who suffered from atopic dermatitis: Mathias, the son of MAUNAWAI founder Maria Knoch. Doctors were unable to help, so Maria set out to find answers on her own. Her research led her to a holistic healthy lifestyle, water quality, and finally to Pi technology in Japan.
In 1996, she brought the first PI water system to Germany. What began as a personal solution became a lifelong mission for the entire family. Today, her son Daniel runs the company, driven by the same conviction: Everyone deserves access to truly good water.

Yes! The Kini replaces up to 3,000 PET bottles per year, is produced in a carbon-neutral manner (Climate Partner), and comes in recycled packaging. The filter works without electricity, without chemicals, and without wasting water. We offer a 10-year warranty against breakage on the jug body. 

No. And there’s no need to. Filtered MAUNAWAI water tastes best at room temperature. If you prefer it cooler, place the pitcher in the refrigerator for a short time (not in the door). Or pour the filtered water into a Tritan bottle and put it in the refrigerator.

The cartridge and filter pad are replaced every 3 months. It only takes a few seconds. We guarantee the availability of replacement filters for at least 15 years.

The Kini reduces limescale but does not intentionally remove it completely. Limescale consists of calcium and magnesium—two minerals your body needs. Our approach: remove harmful substances, keep the minerals.
However, the limescale in the treated water is no longer corrosive. Deposits can be easily wiped away with a single swipe.

We understand your concern and have thoroughly investigated it. The filled Kini currently weighs approximately 2.7 kg. If it were made of glass sturdy enough for daily use, it would weigh around 5 kg. Instead, we use SMMA N30, a special medical-grade plastic. This material is guaranteed not to leach any harmful substances into the treated water. Independent laboratories test every production batch.
