A family of four drinks, cooks and uses around twelve litres of water every day. That adds up to over 4,000 litres a year, all from the tap. And this is where it becomes relevant: even well-regulated tap water can contain residues that no water treatment plant can remove completely. Each of the five stages fulfils a specific function. Together, they produce water that is not only free from pollutants but also has a revitalised, living structure, comparable to natural spring water. And it works without electricity, without chemicals, and without a water connection.

Stufe 1

Ceramic filter. The first line of defence.

The ceramic filter is the first stage of the process. It is the preliminary stage through which your tap water passes before the actual purification process begins.

With its extremely fine pores, the ceramic filter physically filters out anything that doesn’t belong in your drinking water: particles, scale and other residues from the water pipes.

In the second stage, the water passes through the limescale filter pad. Here, specific problematic substances are removed from the water, including excess limescale and heavy metals.

It is particularly important to note that heavy metals such as lead or copper can enter the drinking water via old domestic plumbing. The limescale filter pad reliably reduces these contaminants.

The PiPrime K8 is fitted with limescale filter pads that are specially optimised for hard water (from approx. 14 °dH) and significantly reduce limescale.

Activated carbon. The heart of the filtration process.

The multi-layer filter cartridge containing high-performance activated carbon is at the heart of the MAUNAWAI system. It traps organic pollutants that could not be removed in the previous stages.

A key advantage: the flow rate in the MAUNAWAI is deliberately slower than in many other systems. This significantly increases the contact time between the water and the activated carbon, thereby substantially improving the filter’s performance. Mineral ceramics. Just like in nature.

It is at this stage that MAUNAWAI begins to set itself apart from conventional filters: the purified water is revitalised. Zeolites, quartz and coral sand, as well as tourmaline ceramics, restore trace elements and the water’s natural structure, much like in a natural stream.

This process goes beyond simple filtration: the mineral ceramics enrich the water with trace elements and restore its natural cluster structure.

MAUNAWAI uses a proprietary blend of over 20 different highly porous mineral ceramics. The main components are:

Zeolite granules

Zeolites are highly porous natural minerals with an exceptionally large internal surface area. They act as natural biocatalysts: they absorb residual substances, facilitate ion exchange and promote the uptake of minerals by the water. In nature, zeolites are found in volcanic rock. They have been involved in the natural purification of water for thousands of years.

Quartz and coral sand ceramics

Coral sand is a natural cation exchanger. Calcium has a higher binding affinity than magnesium, which is why magnesium is displaced from the ceramic matrix and enters the water. This process increases the magnesium content. Potassium ions are exchanged for calcium in a ratio of 2:1. Quartz sand creates natural eddies that have a positive effect on the water structure, similar to a stony stream.

Precious shungite

A rare carbon matrix with a carbon content of 95–98% and a high concentration of fullerenes (C₆₀), spherical molecules composed of 60 carbon atoms. The 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded for research into fullerenes (Curl, Kroto, Smalley). In the final stage, EM ceramics and calcium complete the regeneration process. The pH stabilises in the slightly alkaline range, and the water’s natural cluster structure is fully restored.

At the end of this process, your water will have properties that make it comparable to natural spring water: a revitalised structure, a balanced mineral content and a taste that you will notice straight away.

Cluster reduction

Tap water forms large, disordered molecular clusters. The combination of tourmaline FIR radiation, precious shungite fullerenes and mineral ceramics breaks these clusters down and reorganises them into smaller, more ordered structures known as hexagonal clusters.

Hexagonal geometry

Laboratory analyses show that MAUNAWAI water has a hexagonal structure. This hexagonal structure is associated with regenerative properties. This is characteristic of high-quality spring water.

Overview: All reduction values at a glance

How were the tests carried out? All the results are from so-called spiked tests. This means that defined quantities of pollutants were deliberately added to the source water prior to filtration. This allows for an exact measurement of the extent to which each substance is reduced by the filtration process. This method is standard scientific practice because normal tap water often contains too low a concentration of pollutants to reliably determine the actual filtration performance.

The K8's calcium filter pads use heterogeneous catalysis, a principle inspired by mussels and corals. This process creates tiny "seed crystals" that bind to and release dissolved calcium. The result: calcium no longer deposits on surfaces, but the valuable minerals calcium and magnesium remain in your water.

The ceramic filter can be easily cleaned with a copper cloth to keep the pores open. Rinse the glass container occasionally with clean water or a vinegar solution. Optionally, you can naturally disinfect it using an Oxosanum tablet. Important: Do not place it in direct sunlight to prevent algae growth. In that case, use the PiPrime protective cover.

Yes! The PiPrime requires neither electricity nor a water connection. This makes it ideal for use in the office, in a waiting room, while camping, or anywhere you have access to tap water. The PiPrime also reliably filters lake and river water!

The filter modules are included in the initial package for the first year. Starting in the second year, the annual filters cost approximately EUR 130.00 (CHF 150.00). Based on an average consumption of three liters per day, your cost is about 12 cents per liter of spring-quality water. By comparison, high-quality mineral water costs between 50 cents and 1.50 per liter.

The ceramic filter lasts about 12 months, the Pi-Prime filter cartridge lasts 8–12 months, and the pre-filter pads are replaced every 4–8 weeks. A complete filter set for the first year is included in the package. Replacement is easy and requires no tools.
