Ion exchangers require electricity and must be regularly regenerated with salt. They alter the mineral composition of your water by exchanging certain ions. Our cartridge works in two layers. The first layer consists of high-quality activated carbon made from coconut shells—combined with precious shungite and zeolite. Since 2024, we have been manufacturing all filter media that were previously available as granules using ceramic materials. The ceramics are fired at over 1,000 degrees Celsius—resulting in a porous yet stable matrix with a significantly larger surface area. This allows your water to absorb minerals and trace elements even more effectively. We’ve also introduced new materials: an improved infrared bioceramic, coral sand ceramic, gemstones, and optimized precious shungite. Bigger than you might think: Just four grams of activated carbon already have a surface area as large as a soccer field—about 6,400 square meters. The Kini contains 170 grams of activated carbon granules made from coconut shells. That adds up to a total surface area of over 270,000 square meters. This enormous contact surface is why our cartridge filters so thoroughly—naturally.

The K8's calcium filter pads use heterogeneous catalysis, a principle inspired by mussels and corals. This process creates tiny "seed crystals" that bind to and release dissolved calcium. The result: calcium no longer deposits on surfaces, but the valuable minerals calcium and magnesium remain in your water.

The coral sand ceramic in our cartridges acts as a natural mineral exchanger. Here’s how it works: Calcium from your tap water has a stronger binding capacity and displaces the magnesium attached to the ceramic matrix—releasing it into the water. This naturally increases the magnesium content of your filtered water. Magnesium is essential for your energy levels, muscles, and nervous system. Nature takes care of that for you.

The ceramic filter can be easily cleaned with a copper cloth to keep the pores open. Rinse the glass container occasionally with clean water or a vinegar solution. Optionally, you can naturally disinfect it using an Oxosanum tablet. Important: Do not place it in direct sunlight to prevent algae growth. In that case, use the PiPrime protective cover.

Yes! The PiPrime requires neither electricity nor a water connection. This makes it ideal for use in the office, in a waiting room, while camping, or anywhere you have access to tap water. The PiPrime also reliably filters lake and river water!

The filter modules are included in the initial package for the first year. Starting in the second year, the annual filters cost approximately EUR 130.00 (CHF 150.00). No. And there’s no need to. Filtered MAUNAWAI water tastes best at room temperature. If you prefer it cooler, place the pitcher in the refrigerator for a short time (not in the door). Or pour the filtered water into a Tritan bottle and put it in the refrigerator.

The cartridge and filter pad are replaced every 3 months. It only takes a few seconds. We guarantee the availability of replacement filters for at least 15 years.

The Kini reduces limescale but does not intentionally remove it completely. Limescale consists of calcium and magnesium—two minerals your body needs. Our approach: remove harmful substances, keep the minerals.
However, the limescale in the treated water is no longer corrosive. Deposits can be easily wiped away with a single swipe.

We understand your concern and have thoroughly investigated it. The filled Kini currently weighs approximately 2.7 kg. If it were made of glass sturdy enough for daily use, it would weigh around 5 kg. Instead, we use SMMA N30, a special medical-grade plastic. This material is guaranteed not to leach any harmful substances into the treated water. Independent laboratories test every production batch.

It's simple: Soak your seeds in PI water for about 30 minutes before sowing. Many of our customers report faster and more vigorous germination. PI water supports natural cell development—and this is already evident during root formation and early growth.

Our customers report impressive results: stronger growth, deeper roots, greater drought resistance, and more vigorous foliage. This is due to the natural water structure, which plants can absorb more effectively. Just give it a try with your houseplants—you’ll see the difference.

For the Kini, we recommend replacing the filter every two to three months, depending on how much you filter. The pre-filter pad should be replaced at the same interval. For our larger under-sink systems, a cartridge lasts up to twelve months. 

It’s best to use citric acid or a mild vinegar solution—simply mix 200 ml of water with one tablespoon of vinegar. Please do not use abrasive cleaners or rough sponges. A quick tip: Rinse the pot with filtered or boiled water, not unfiltered tap water. Dry with a soft cloth—and you’re done. We do not recommend putting the Kini in the dishwasher.

This can happen if unfiltered water gets on the outside of the cartridge or if the Kini is exposed to direct sunlight. Don’t worry: simply clean the pitcher with a vinegar or citric acid solution. Also check the cartridge seal. And in the future, place the Kini in a spot out of direct sunlight or use a Kini sun protection cover—that way, everything stays fresh.

Your MAUNAWAI water tastes best when fresh. However, it will keep in the refrigerator for two to ten days without any problems. Important: Do not leave it in direct sunlight or near a heat source. Our tip: It’s better to filter smaller amounts more often—that way, you’ll always enjoy water of the highest quality.

It’s simple and eco-friendly: Place the cartridge in a cloth bag and crush it. Put the plastic parts in the recycling bin, and return the filter contents—activated carbon and ceramic particles—to nature; they can also go in the compost or in the organic waste bin. The pre-filter pad goes in the general waste. That’s how the cycle closes.

We’ve seen this before, and it’s usually easy to fix. The most common causes: The cartridge becomes saturated after two to three months and needs to be replaced. Or air bubbles have formed. Our tip: Soak the cartridge overnight in a bowl of water, then tap it gently—this often solves the problem. If the flow doesn’t improve after that, it’s time for a new cartridge.

SMMA is a high-quality plastic that is even used in medicine and surgery—for example, in implants. We chose SMMA M30 because it meets the strictest requirements for food-safe plastics: even after a ten-day soak in liquid at 40 degrees Celsius, it leaves no residue. The SAN plastic we used previously could no longer guarantee this. The material comes from Frankfurt am Main—short supply chains, highest quality.

Don't worry—this isn't a foreign object, but EM ceramic. EM stands for "Effective Microorganisms"—a mixed culture of over 80 naturally occurring key microbes that support life-sustaining processes. The unique shape with the indentation is intentional: it gives the ceramic a larger surface area that can be washed by the water. A small part with a big impact.

Yes. The Kini filters out about 70% of the microplastics from your tap water. With the additional micro-sponge, performance improves to about 85%. Microplastics are a growing problem in our drinking water—and another reason why a MAUNAWAI filter is worth it. With our larger systems, such as PiPrime or PiTec, the filtration performance is even higher.

If you’ll be away for a short period of two to ten days, it’s best to store the filter cartridge in the refrigerator—in a bowl with a little water. This will keep it fresh and ready for use. If you’ll be away for more than ten days, we recommend replacing the filter cartridge and the limescale pad upon your return. This way, you can start your daily routine with fresh, spring-water quality.

Yes. The first layer of our cartridge contains high-performance activated carbon of the highest quality, which reliably filters out pharmaceutical residues. Pharmaceutical residues and hormone-like substances are increasingly finding their way into our drinking water—via wastewater treatment plants that are unable to completely remove these substances. Our long-term studies have proven its effectiveness. An important safeguard for you and your family.

Excellent. Our Kini reduces pesticides and herbicides to less than 5% of their original levels. Arsenic and copper are reduced to 12%, and uranium to 25%. With our larger systems, such as PiPrime or PiTec, the results are even better because they use more filter media. For you, this means your water is as clean as you want it to be.

Yes—and that’s exactly what matters most to us. Unlike reverse osmosis systems, which strip everything from your water, MAUNAWAI preserves the natural minerals: calcium, magnesium, sulfur, and other valuable substances. Your water is purified, but not stripped of its nutrients. This gives you water of spring-water quality—with everything nature has put into it.

Our water has a pH level between 6.8 and 7.5—meaning it is neutral to slightly alkaline. This gently supports your body’s natural acid-base balance. We deliberately avoid extreme pH levels, unlike some ionizers, and instead follow nature’s lead: a moderate, natural balance.

Less than many people think. The microsiemens value (ppm value) measures only the electrical conductivity of your water—that is, charged particles. However, it cannot distinguish between harmful metals and healthy minerals. It does not detect hormones or medication residues at all. So a low value does not automatically mean good water. What matters more is what’s in it—and what isn’t.

Germany has the second-highest nitrate levels in the EU—due to agriculture. Added to this are pesticide and medication residues, as well as heavy metals, particularly in older buildings with outdated plumbing. An important point that is often overlooked: The Drinking Water Ordinance applies only up to the property line. What happens in your pipes beyond that point is beyond its scope.

Nitrate enters the groundwater mainly through agricultural fertilization. In small amounts, it is harmless—but it becomes a problem at high concentrations, especially for infants and young children. Our filtration system reduces the nitrate content to about a quarter of the original level. This way, you can rest assured that your water is safe for your family in this regard as well.

Your body is more than 55% water. It plays a role in nearly everything that happens in your body: from transporting nutrients to regulating body temperature and detoxifying the body. The quality of the water you drink every day has a direct impact on your well-being. That’s why it’s worth taking a closer look at what comes out of your tap.

As a general rule, you should drink at least 1.5 liters a day. More precisely, you can calculate 30 to 40 ml per kilogram of body weight. Add to that about one liter that your body absorbs from solid food. No—that’s a common myth. The hardness of your water—that is, its calcium and magnesium content—has no negative effects on your health. On the contrary: calcium and magnesium are essential minerals. Limescale deposits on pots or in the kettle are annoying, but not harmful. The claim that hard water promotes kidney stones is also not scientifically proven. The Drinking Water Act even recommends not lowering water hardness below 15 °f—because water that is too soft deprives the body of beneficial mineral salts.

It’s not what many people think. Your body is home to around 100 trillion bacteria—about 90% of your cells are microbes.
